Data and credits

Everything on this site comes from open data. This page names each source, what we use it for and when we last read it. Where a figure is an estimate, the page that shows it says so.

  • AEMET (Spain's state meteorological agency): monthly climate averages for 1991 to 2020, used for temperature, rain and sunshine. Data read 2026-11-07.
  • NOAA OISST via NCEI: daily sea-surface temperature, averaged for 2019 to 2024 on a grid of about 25 km. Used for the sea-temperature figures, which are estimates. Data read 2026-11-07.
  • Eurostat, air passenger transport between reporting airports (avia_par_es), monthly figures for 2024, licensed CC BY 4.0. Used to show which direct routes were operated last year. A pair missing from Eurostat's list means unknown, not none. Data read 2026-11-07.
  • INE (Spain's national statistics institute): hotel occupancy figures, used for our estimate of how busy a place tends to be. Data read 2026-11-07.
  • Contains data from OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence (ODbL): used for beach counts and walking routes. Data read 2026-11-07.
  • Wikipedia, Wikivoyage and Wikidata, licensed CC BY-SA: we take facts about each place and rewrite them in our own words, with the source page shown next to each statement. Pages read 2026-11-07.
